How to manually install OCR languages

Q: How can I manually install the OCR languages in PDF Studio.

A: First, it’s recommended that you download the OCR packages directly through PDF Studio as this will be the most up to date and prevent any possible issues. See OCR language download troubleshooting

If the above still does not work you can try to manually install OCR languages into PDF Studio by using the instructions below. Make sure to follow the directions according to your PDF Studio version.

PDF Studio Version 2021+

PDF Studio 2021 was released with a new and improved OCR engine. For versions 2021+ follow the instructions below to manually install OCR languages.

  1. Download the Required Data File for all languages
  2. Download the language pack you wish to use from the links below
  3. Extract / Copy the files contained in the gz archives into the following directory:
    • {User Home Folder}/.pdfstudio[version]/tess/tessdata
      where [version] is the version of PDF Studio you are running, for instance .pdfstudio2021
    • Read more about your user home folder and pdfstudio folder
      • NOTE: the pdfstudio folder starts with a dot and is a hidden folder
  4. Restart PDF Studio
  5. You will now be able to select the new language from the drop down in the OCR wizard

 

 

PDF Studio Version 2020 & older

For PDF Studio versions 2020 and older use the instructions below:

  1. Find the language you wish to install from the list below
  2. Click on the link to download the language pack files
  3. Extract / Copy the files contained in the gz file into the following directory:
    • {User Home Folder}/.pdfstudio[version]/tess/tessdata
      where [version] is the version of PDF Studio you are running, for instance .pdfstudio2020
    • Read more about your user home folder and pdfstudio folder
    • NOTE: the pdfstudio folder starts with a dot and is a hidden folder, you will need to un-hide it
    • NOTE: you may need to create both the “tess” & “tessdata” directories
    • Download Trained Data File from our website https://download.qoppa.com/ocr/tess302/osd.traineddata.tar.gz, extract and copy the file into “tessdata”folder
  4. Restart PDF Studio
  5. You will now be able to select the new language from the drop down in the OCR wizard
