Q: I password protected a PDF document. PDF Studio requires a password to open; however if I email it to my iPhone, the document seems unprotected and opens without asking for the password. Is my document still secure?
A: In the PDF specifications, there are 2 passwords: the open/user password to open the document and the permissions/owner password to set permissions on the document. When setting an open password, it is strongly recommended to also secure the document with a permissions password. Some PDF viewers (such as the iPhone PDF viewer) do not enforce the open password when there is no permissions password set. PDF Studio follow the same behavior as Adobe Acrobat and enforce the open password always.
